In keeping with tradition, the Sun God smiled brightly on the 27th Annual Paw n’ Pole Sunday, March 4. Around thirty human and thirty canine racers turned the Sun Valley Gun Club into a racecourse of a different color. Multiple colors, to be precise. This year's costume theme, “It’s a Three Ringed Circus,” turned the site into a rainbow of craziness worthy of the Paw n’ Pole in all its glory. Racers weren’t the only winners on this fine day. One lucky gal, Pam Lyford, won the raffle for a 2012-2013 North Valley Trails Pass, and several Costume Contest, Pet Tricks, and Special Category winners took home prize bags stuffed with gift certificates, dog toys and other fun stuff.  And the winners are…

In the Kids’ Under 12 1K X-C, Tayah Hamilton and her dog “Behrol” won first, and Maren Feltman and “Boone the Peanut Dog” captured second. Sarah Feltman and “Boone the Tiger Dog,” and Natalee Morse and “Delvie Dog,”... (more)

The Snow Box Derby, sponsored by the Hailey Kiwanis Club, was a delight for participants and viewers as cardboard concoctions competed for fastest, most creative, and most inspiring creation or run.

Construction requirements limit materials to only: cardboard, paint, tape and glue.  All snow boxes will be inspected prior to the event.  Participants must also demonstrate that they can stop their snow box if needed.  The Soap Box Derby is open to anyone 5 years and older.  In the name of safety, sledders must go feet first and wear helmets.

(Hailey, ID) – Racers, parents, grandparents, and friends were on the fast snow at Rotarun, Friday night. The Telepocalypse series joined with the Friday Night Race Series under a sliver moon and two bright evening stars.  The mountain was packed and the exuberant crowd enjoyed great times under the lights of Rotarun.

This Friday Night series was fun and flexible with dual racing trials.  It was open to all ages and any equipment: alpine, telemark or snowboard were welcomed.  It will be a definite repeat for our next season.  The “dual” format lets two racers compete head-to-head.  At the Feb. 24 finals, in addition to the two-run duals the series points were tabulated and a “ski off” between the top men confirmed the King of the Hill, with the most winning points, Jimmy Grossman  was crowed King of the Hill. There was a Trophy for the Queen of the Hill, but it will be held till next year since there was no consistent female racer to be crowed.

The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club hosted its 2012 Winter Games Competition on February 11. The one-day event drew skaters from Jackson Hole and Boise, as well as most local competitive skaters. Joyce Chan and Caitlin Sholtis competed against Harten in Novice/Intermediate Artistic, with Chan winning Silver and Sholtis Bronze.
